We are seeking a passionate and experienced Development Director to lead fundraising and development efforts for a science center in northeastern Maryland. The Development Director will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive development strategy to support its mission and growth. This role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and the community.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet annual and long-term financial goals. This includes individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, special events, and planned giving.
  • Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors. Ensure effective communication and engagement with donors through personalized outreach, recognition programs, and stewardship activities.
  • Grant Management: Identify, research, and apply for grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Manage grant reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Special Events: Plan and execute fundraising events, including galas, benefit dinners, and community outreach programs. Collaborate with volunteers, board members, and staff to ensure successful events.
  • Board Engagement: Work closely with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and resources for fundraising efforts. Provide regular updates on development activities and progress.
  • Marketing and Communications: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and social media campaigns. Ensure consistent and compelling messaging that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.

Desired Skills and Qualities

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and development, with a proven track record of success in achieving fundraising goals.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising best practices, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Experience in grant writing and management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
